FAQ

How do I

commission bespoke fitted or free standing furniture. Who will design it and give me a range of options for materials ? After contacting me an appointment can be made for a visit to the workshop or if you prefer I  can come to  where any  fitted furniture is to be built in. It’s very useful before this initial get together if you have spent a little time formulating any ideas about what you are looking for. Let me reassure you, I don’t expect a set of drawings or detailed instructions, just an indication of styles you may like. Photographs from magazines are more than adequate for this or a view of something already made that you appreciate. Usually a week or so after this consultation I’ll contact you with an initial written outline of our discussions and a basic drawing which is intended only as a sketch. I’ll also at this point give you an estimate for the project. If you decide to proceed a second meeting can be arranged at which any ambiguities can be resolved and a specification can be finalised. A date at which I will present you with working drawings can also be agreed On the agreed date I’ll deliver a copy of the working drawings and details of previously decided specifications, i.e. materials and finishes. At this juncture any last minute alterations can be made and we can agree a time scale for the work and a completion date. Based on the outcome of this meeting I will then send you a formal quotation for the project. When you let me know that you want to proceed with the commission I will ask for a 50% deposit. This will be used to procure materials for the work and commits the allocated workshop time to your particular project. The final balance for a free standing piece is payable on completion, or if the project is for fitted furniture and being made over an extended period of time, additional payments will be asked for at pre agreed stages of work.  You will be invited to monitor the progress of your project throughout by viewing  a web album especially created for you. Links to the  album will be sent to you via your email address and the album will be  updated regularly during the construction of your project, or if you prefer you are welcome to  visit the workshop during the make.

How long will it take

to make the pieces I want and who will deliver and fit them? This depends entirely on the size of any particular project. For a single free standing piece it could be only a few weeks once a design and price have been agreed. Larger fitted projects can be divided up into phases with completion dates agreed in advance. Delivery is always organised by us and included in the price. The fitting is usually carried out by myself or professional fitters I have worked with for many years. The fitting costs are included in the quote given at the beginning of the process.
